What is it?

Our Open Door Vocational Assessment and Guidance Centres provide a comprehensive programme of evaluation for people to improve work effectiveness and to facilitate a successful return to work following an injury or disability.

A range of assessments are conducted by professionals with backgrounds in Occupational Therapy, Occupational Psychology and Physiotherapy.

The aim of the assessments is to help get a better understanding of the situation and to help the organisation and employee to:

• Understand, process and manage their illness or injury

• Identify what activities they can and can’t do in relation to their occupation and role

• Establish whether they are able to return to work, and if so under what circumstances.

What Services Do We Provide?

Functional Capacity Assessments
The employee will be asked to perform a series of activities including lifting, reaching, stretching, standing, kneeling and walking. The activities are designed with their safety in mind and they will not be asked to do anything which may cause them discomfort.

Psychometric Testing
This is carried out in order to understand how their illness or injury affects their ability to work. They will be interviewed by an Open Door Consultant who will then ask them to carry out some paper and pen exercises to establish how best to assist them in their return to work.

Ergonomic Assessments
This is designed to look at their workstation and assess whether any adaptations can help them to work more comfortably.

Job Demands Analysis
A review is carried out in their workplace to understand, in more depth, the tasks of the job and the equipment they use.

Vocational Exploration
If they are unable to return to their original job, we can explore alternative occupations. The Consultant will talk through their work preference, and with the help of career exploration software and pen and paper tests, can provide guidance on the most suitable options for them to explore.

What Can You Get From The Service?
