What is it?
The Certification in Disability Management is an internationally recognised certification in disability management, which measures a skill set better known in the UK as Occupational Rehabilitation.
- There are currently over 700 Certified Disability Management Professionals (CDMP) throughout the world, including Europe, North America and Australasia, and over 30 in the UK
- It tests the candidate`s competence in 9 Occupational Rehabilitation ‘domains’ or core areas of expertise
What is the value of CDMP?
- Until now there has been no recognised certification in this field in the UK
- Certification provides reassurance to purchasers and consumers that the rehabilitation service they are receiving is of a high quality and is occupationally focused (i.e. that the provider is managing work issues, in addition to personal, psychological and functional issues)
- It will increase the overall quality of occupational rehabilitation services in the UK
- Certification provides career development opportunities for occupational rehabilitation practitioners
Who developed CDMP?
- The National Institute of Disability Management and Research (NIDMAR), in Canada.
- Design and development was led by a university research team and a broad stakeholder group of government, practitioner, business and labour organisations
- It is founded on the principles outlined in the Disability Management Standard developed by the International Labour Organization (ILO)
- It has been accredited by the International Disability Management Standards Council (IDMSC)
Who is best suited to take the exam?
- This will appeal to practitioners in a range of professions including Occupational Health and Human Resources professionals, as well as other health professionals working in the field of Occupational Rehabilitation
- To be eligible for the exam, applicants must have a combined level of experience and training in a related field
How do I prepare for the exam?
We run workshops early each year to explain the examination programme in more detail, and to provide study texts etc.
Several universities run training programmes in Occupation Rehabilitation and their curriculum teaches to the 9 Domains mentioned earlier.
